Maleme Memorial Update!

The Refurbishment has been completed!

Before I begin I’d like to show you a photo taken by Pete Gregory of what the entrance to the Maleme Memorial looked like before we started on the refurbishment - not great is it?

Before…

We are very pleased to announce that the work to refurbish the Maleme Memorial in Crete has now been completed.

This work was masterminded by our 30 Sqn Committee, namely Phil Jones and Peter Gregory, with our Chairman managing the difficult task of raising the money. Half the money came from 33 Sqn Association but, on behalf of the 30 Sqn Association, I would like to thank our members for their very kind and generous contributions, contributions that have made all the difference to this long-distance project.

After…

In short, the walls have been rebuilt, the fence has been re-erected, a secure gate has been fitted, and three very professional looking plaques, are in a more appropriate place.

Also, there is a new QR code that directs the public to our website page and explains the predicament 30 & 33 Sqns personnel were in during the Battle of Crete.

All-in-all, a first class job, and a fitting tribute to the men of 30 and 33 Sqns who lost their lives fighting for their county.
